Teju Cole was not lying when he said the energies of Lagos life, the creative, malevolent, ambiguous people all converge at the bus-stops.

Truly, all the bookshops on this list are all located at some of the most popular bus-stops in this beautiful city.

Despite the never ending drumbeat of "Nigerians don't read" headlines that pepper your newsfeeds, the book shops are alive and well here.

Hello book lovers, welcome to Lagos, the bookstores have been waiting for you.

1. Ojuelegba under bridge

This underbridge used bookstore is home to countless books, both popular fiction and nonfiction titles and more obscure literature. I got copies of James Baldwin, Jonathan Frenzen, a vintage copy of Things Fall Apart and old copies of Time Magazines, Vogue, Economist, Nat Geo from this used bookstore.

Books and magazines go for as cheap as 100 Naira.

2. Ikeja Along (Railway Line)

I've said it before and I will say it again. No self respecting bibliophile should say he/she has never visited this spot. Every Saturday morning, this place is home for thousands of books, all sold for 100 each. The Railway line bookshop has a quaint feel, packed with used copies of popular novels, out-of-print editions and plenty of biographies.

5. Marina (In front of CMS Church)

You’ll find a little bit of everything at this road side book shop, I mean their are about 3 vendors selling books, making it a stalker/browser’s paradise. Complete with the view of the church, the bridge and the skycrapers, this road side bookstore is an absolute delight.

6. Yaba bustop

About 2-3 sellers offers new, used and rare books, with many popular titles including John Gisham, Nora Roberts and Danielle steele at a discount.

7. Glendora Bookshops, Ikeja City Mall Lagos.

This is not a used bookstore per se, but this is the only place where you can buy used African Literature books, best sellers, children books and magazine.

On my visit to Glendora, Ikeja City Mall I was able to get newspaper, books and magazines clippings of events that happened in the 80's and 90's. The cheapest book at glendora goes for 500 Naira.

If I discover more cheap bookstores, I would update this list.

Until then, what are your favorite used bookshops in Lagos? Please do share!

P.S I was not allowed to take pictures on my numerous visit to these bookshops. They were scared that since they were selling by the road side, the government may sanction them.
