The best African goalkeeper nowadays
Being a goalkeeper requires technique, great athleticism and the innate ability to be a leader, to manage the whole team in times of pressure.
The goalkeeper is the last bulwark between the strikers and the net: if an attacker misses a goal he can do better in the following action, but a goalkeeper cannot afford to make a mistake. Goalkeepers often have to blame themselves for a defeat, but when a team can count on an excellent goalkeeper they can sleep peacefully.
The best European top clubs can count on real living legends: Neuer, Ter Stegen, Allison, Buffon, Navas; although African goalkeepers are not as commonly playing in the Champions League, a great and historic team like Ajax has decided to focus on what, today, is certainly the best goalkeeper on the African continent: the Cameroonian Andrè Onana.
Let's find out in our website more details about the career of the young Ajax goalkeeper, from his beginnings to the palmares.
Onana’s career in the European Youth Teams
Andrè Onana's youth team career began in his country, Cameroon, starting to tread the fields in the renowned Samuel Eto'o Academy, created by the Cameroonian football star to better enhance young football players. Thanks to the contacts between the Academy and one of the teams in which Eto'o has become an international top player, after five years Andrè Onana moved to Europe, in 2010, in the Barcelona youth team. In Spain Onana is immediately noticed by the European scouts and he stays five years defending the Blaugrana goa. Onana's career, however, is marked by the passage into top clubs linked in some way to each other: it is known that since the Dutch era, there is an important connection between Barcelona and Ajax, so in 2015 the Cameroonian goalkeeper was hired by Jong Ajax, the reserve team of the Lancers, who played in Eerste Divisie, the Dutch second division.
The immediate promotion to the first team
Andrè Onana does not stay long at Jong Ajax: during the summer athletic training, the Cameroonian goalkeeper is aggregated to the first team, replacing the third goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh. This decision was made by Ajax's expert coach Frank de Boer, who was also a Barcelona player in the past, probably under the advice of some former colleague still active on Spanish soil. Andrè Onana's first official match was not long in coming and the goalkeeper made his debut with the Ajax first team on 4 July 2015 in the friendly match against Dinamo Moscow. Since then Onana has climbed positions as a goalkeeper, becoming the first choice as a goalkeeper for Ajax in 2017/2018, playing alongside young footballers who soon became a symbol of Dutch football, such as De Ligt and De Jong.
Onana’s palmares
In the 2018/2019 season, the first victories begin to come for Onana, who wins the title of Dutch champion, the Dutch Cup and the Dutch Super Cup. Thanks to his excellent performances with Ajax, Andrè Onana in 2019 also won the prize for "Best African Goalkeeper of the Year". More info on mypromocode.co.uk
