Throwback Thursday: Streets will never forget Moussa Dembele

Earlier in the week, former Premier League midfielder Mousa Dembele announced his intentions to leave the game at the end of his current contract.

Dembele spent seven seasons north London, but his star shone brightest under Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine coach claimed Dembele had the skill to be on par with legends like Diego Maradona and Ronaldinho.

“He is one of the unbelievable talents in the history of football,” he said.

“I told you and then some people use my word to describe him as a genius of the football.

"For me he is this type of player, I put him next to Ronaldinho, (Diego) Maradona, (Jay-Jay) Okocha – players that I was lucky to play with." Pochettino said.

He was a crucial cog in Pochettino's high pressing system and his departure has coincided with a slump in luck at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Dembele's intimidating frame misled many to underestimate just how good he was on the ball.

In his prime, Dembele was pairing a passing success rate of 90% with a tackle success rate of 80%.

When Dembele left Spurs, the team created a compilation of the midfielder's best moments.

Former teammate Kieran Trippier believes Daniel Levy's decision to let Dembele leave cost Tottenham the Champions League title.

"It baffled me that they would sell him. I know he was going to be a free (transfer) in the summer, but with the things we were challenging for, I would have kept him there and then let him go. He was the difference between winning a trophy or not." Trippier told The Athletic.

The 34 year old former Belgian international is definitely one of the most underrated player in Premier League history.
