Manchester United have announced the appointment of Erik ten Hag as manager on Thursday, April 21, 2022.
Ten Hag edged Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino to the role.
The 52-year-old who will join the Red Devils after his tenure with Eredivisie giants Ajax Amsterdam this season.
In a statement on the official website, Ten Hag stated what it means to be manager of a massive club such as Manchester United
He said, “It is a great honour to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am hugely excited by the challenge ahead.
“I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I am absolutely determined to develop a team capable of delivering the success they deserve.
“It will be difficult to leave Ajax after these incredible years, and I can assure our fans of my complete commitment and focus on bringing this season to a successful conclusion before I move to Manchester United.”
The move by Manchester United is one that has been rumored to be in the works for weeks now.
Reactions as Manchester United appoint Ten Hag
Manchester United fans took to social media to react to the appointment of Ten Hag.
Some Manchester United fans questioned the appointment of Ten Hag as a means to settle things down after a disastrous 4-0 loss to rivals Liverpool at Anfield in midweek.
Some sections of Manchester United fans also did not understand the move to bring Ten Hag to England with no experience in the Premier League compared to Pochettino who did well at Tottenham Hotspur before moving to Paris Saint-Germain.
Everton midfielder Donny Van de Beek also rose to the top of the trends as Manchester United fans expected him to have a resurgence under his former manager once he returns from loan.
The reactions to the appointment of Ten Hag was positive mixed with a little bit of criticism.
