The last time a mixtape from the Chocolate City rapper was enjoyed was in 2012. Four years have gone by, he has become more than just a rapper, rising to the enviable height of label management as CEO of Chocolate City Music, and now we all get a tape.

Inspire a mainstream mixtape culture

The last time a mainstream artiste with a ‘big’ name dropped a tape, it was M.I’s label mate and ‘brother’, Ice Prince Zamani, who let fly the ‘Trash Can EP’ in 2015. Fast forward to the point, and we have nothing from the A-listy actys by way of tapes. Wizkid promised something, but he is yet to make good his words.

“Illegal Music 3” will play a vital role in inspiring a number of top acts to tow the mixtape line, and get bodies of work out.

Galvanising the Hip-hop scene

M.I’s last album “Chairman”, was a source of worry to Hip-hop purists who believe the rapper had sold out with more street-hop sounds and a commercial direction.

But on this tape, he is set to abandon conformism, and chase true art. What that means for everyone is that M.I will bring forth content, bars and wordplay.

Nigerian Hip-hop can’t have enough of these. In fact, it can’t survive without this.

Brings back the true essence of M.I

M.I’s 2008 album “Talk About It” is one of the greatest rap albums of all time. The rapper over time is widely believed to have watered down his content.

This tape gives us the chance ton connect with the very essence of M.I Abaga, the same man who we all fell in love with. The same man who held Hip-hop for years. The same man who we all want to love again for his music.
