Top 5 collaborations to expect from Nigeria in 2015
Nigerian artistes are currently one of the most synergy-inclined musicians on the planet.
The country’s teeming mass of musicians and talents are always on the lookout for new ways to join forces with other acts to make their songs, and ultimately, their career more successful.
This year alone, we have been in collaboration heaven. Wizkid has a smashing collaboration with Drake ruling the airwaves right now. Davido has found love in the eyes in of Meek Mill, and our dear neighbour, Sarkodie scored good music with Ace Hood.
But in the midst of these musical delight, we still have a number of these collaborations which are yet to be unleashed. They include features from Chris Brown, Angelique Kidjo, Fetty Wap and Trey Songz.
Did I just hear a Rihanna? Perhaps dreams do come true.
Pulse Music has sifted through all the news, fake hype, and PR stunts and we have the confirmed insider news about the collaborations which have a high possibility of hitting us.
Wizkid and Chris Brown (Possibility of release: 50%)
Last year, when there was tension in the air, and a talk of needless rivalry between our boy wonders Wizkid and Davido, there was also hardwork. While Davido was scouring for a good fit to his sibilant singing, Wizkid grabbed the currently embattled Tyga.
Then he upped his ante, by recording with Chris Brown. The single birthed from that recording is yet to get a release date, although a snippet was revealed in South Africa when the duo performed.
Right now, it is still hanging in the air. Que sera, sera. We keep our fingers crossed.
Davido and Trey Songz (Possibility of release: 95%)
The year is 2015, and a certain son of Naija has blood in his eyes. Davido intends to go for the kill when he releases his sophomore album. He gave great damage with ‘Fans mi’, but that’s not the only cookie in his music jar, as sexy Trey Songz also got dragged into the game.
The collaboration single between both giants has a tentative title called ‘Wetting you say’, and will be unleashed at the release of the album. But slight doubts still remain as the date of the album unveiling has been pushed back once, so it stays at a highly positive 97%.
There’s just a slight chance that it will not see the light, but you’re never sure until the cat’s in the bag right?
Ayo Jay and Fetty Wap (Possiblity of release: 30%)
This is a combination between a man with half-a-hit song, and another with a global hit song. They both have one good song to their name at the moment.
Ayo Jay has struggled to make a lasting impact with his music releases, achieving relative success with his ‘Available’ single. But right now, he has announced a collaboration with current US wonder boy, Fetty Wap.
A single between this two is scheduled for release this summer, but pinches of salt should be taken for this one. Fetty Wap is unlikely to make his follow-up single a single a collaboration with a ‘World Music’ act, but who knows.
This will be a surprise…even to the most optimistic of Ayo Jay’s fans.
Wizkid and Angelique Kidjo (Possibility of release: 60%)
Starboy makes this list weightier with another entry. This time he comes a little closer
To the Nigerian border with a record which has the legendary Angelique Kidjo from Benin Republic. The single for this is already recorded, and will be contained in Wizkid’s forthcoming album which will be released in September.
This might not rank as one with the ‘wow’ factor, and many people might let this slide because Angelique Kidjo is African, but you when you factor in her trophy collection which include two shiny gongs from the holy grail of music, Grammy, then you can begin to appreciate what a feat this is.
Praiz and an unnamed Hip hop star (Possibility of release: ?)
This affair has question marks written all over it. It is still a conjecture as far as the public is concerned, but hey, who says it won’t come to pass?
Thus sayeth Pulse Music. Show some belief you Nigerians.
