Hum

Yes - hum! Humming helps perk up a weak voice.

It’s pretty easy but here’s how you do it: relax your mouth, position the tip of your tongue at the back of your bottom teeth. Then you make an “nnnn” or “mmmm” sound.

Breath control exercises

One thing a lot of singers and performers like Beyonce and Jidenna have is breath control. Their breathing does not get in the way of their performance.

Breathe in for six seconds and hold for six seconds. Then breathe out for six seconds (empty lungs) and hold for six seconds.

Swimming is a good way for you to train yourself to get breathe control or you can try holding your breathe under the shower. You can also try fitness exercises like jogging and aerobics if you find you have to sing and perform at the same time - this will help you with stamina.

Vocal siren

The siren is a good way for you to warm up your voice and should be done daily. Make a sound like a siren and start from the lowest note in your vocal range and go high.

Lip bray

This exercise helps stimulate blood flow in the mouth and lips. You know those bubble/ ‘bbrrrr’ sounds you do to make a baby laugh? That’s a lip bray. It helps reduce vocal tension.
