Polish goalkeeper Szczesny wants a three-man defence to stop Super Eagles

Szczesny and his Polish teammates are preparing for the friendly game against the Super Eagles at the Milejski stadium on Wroclaw on Friday, March 23.

The 27-year-old  is expected to be in action against the Eagles and speaking to he revealed his preference for a three-man defense for the match.

He said, “Personally, it does not make much difference to me, but I prefer playing with three defenders, but whether it will be right for the national team, time will tell.”

Szczesny who has been part of the Poland senior team set up since 2009 also stated that he believes his team is steadily improving ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

“Looking at the training we’ve had so far and last matches of the team you can actually see that we are improving tactically,” he said.

The former Arsenal man will hope to register a clean sheet for the 15 time in the national team but is also aware of the competition for the position.

Szczesny who plays for Italian side Juventus, faces competition from Roma’s Łukasz Skorupski, Swansea’s Łukasz Fabiański and Ipswich Town’s Bartosz Białkowwho are all included among the players selected to face the Eagles.

The former Arsenal man admitted that Poland Head Coach faces a tough decision to select either him.

He said, “I think it would be unreasonable to speak in March about who will be number 1 in June. There may still be many things along the way. Declines in form, injuries, all these are normal in sport.”

After the game against the Super Eagles, Szczesny and his teammates will face South Korea while Nigeria will play against Serbia on Tuesday, March 27.
