Five of those NHL championships were led by captain Beliveau, as he chalked up 1,219 points in 1,125 NHL games.

Beliveau's start at the Canadiens - or how it came about - is stuff of legend, with the franchise buying out the league he played in, the Quebec Senior Hockey League, in order to acquire his services.

Consequently, the QSHL turned professional from its amateur status, and Beliveau was one of several stars spawned from the development.

Beliveau played in 14 All-Star Games, and was named in the First All-Star team on six occasions.

He was named in the NHL's Hall of Fame in 1972, one year after he departed the league a winner - claiming his 10th Stanley Cup triumph in the 1970-71 season.
