Ana Ivanovic said her 2008 French Open success helped her learn about herself, after reaching the last 32 at the 2015 event.

The seventh seed at Roland Garros has lost the opening set of her first two matches this campaign, but emerged with wins over Yaroslava Shvedova and Misaki Doi.

Since her title success at the clay-court major, and consequent rise to the number one ranking that year, Ivanovic has not featured in a grand slam final.

Despite making just two major quarter-finals in 27 slams since, Ivanovic has managed to stay among the WTA Tour's elite - currently ranked seventh.

The 27-year-old said focusing on enjoying her tennis kept her at the top of her game.

"I just try to enjoy it," Ivanovic said, after her 3-6 6-3 6-4 win over Doi.

"In one way, it was great to win grand slam at such a young age.

"At the other hand, we grew up in the public eye. I went through my teenage years, I went through my early 20s all in the public eye.

"And you learn a lot about yourself, and what you like, what you don't like, what you need, what you don't need, and it obviously changes.

"I'm a different person now to five, or six, or seven years ago. I approach matches, and I approach tournaments, a little bit different.

"I really try to take it one step at a time, and try to enjoy it, and try to find the little things that make you happy when you're on the road too because it's not always easy to wake up in a hotel bed."

Ivanovic will wake up happy on Thursday, after booking a third-round meeting with Croatia's Donna Vekic.

She said Vekic, 18, was already making waves on the women's circuit.

"I actually saw her first match against [Caroline] Garcia. She has big serve, big game, she really goes for her shots," Ivanovic said.

"I don't know much about her, I haven't really seen her play too much."

Ivanovic has been in even form in her first two matches, with 67 winners and 63 unforced errors.
