Popular New York Times columnist, David Carr has died at the age of 58, the paper reports.
He was rushed to the St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Carr, joined the Times in 2002, wrote the widely read “Media Equation” column that appeared in the Monday business section of the paper and focused on "media as it intersects with business, culture and government.”
"He was the finest media reporter of his generation, a remarkable and funny man who was one of the leaders of our newsroom," Times’ Executive Editor, Dean Baquet said in response to his death.
Carr overcame a long battle with drug addiction to become one of the most recognizable and respected journalists in the US.
He is survived by his wife Jill Rooney Carr and three daughters, Maddie, Erin and Meagan.
