The initiative, approved by Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, aims to foster unity and celebrate the state’s cultural richness during the revived Benue Carnival.

The event is scheduled for 5 PM on December 31, 2024, at IBB Square, Makurdi.

Dr Raymond Asemakaha, Managing Director of the Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC), disclosed the plans in a statement on Tuesday, December 31.

“This is a unique opportunity to enjoy the flavours of Benue while engaging with family and friends. You are to drink responsibly,” Asemakaha stated.

The Benue Carnival, which had been dormant since former Governor Gabriel Suswam’s administration, was revived by Governor Alia to promote cultural pride and provide a positive outlet for the youth.

Monday’s activities featured a vibrant parade with socio-cultural groups showcasing traditional costumes and performances.

Governor Alia’s gesture has drawn applause from residents, who view it as a refreshing approach to public celebrations.

The carnival has also been praised for its focus on uniting the community and reigniting interest in Benue’s cultural heritage.

As the state gears up for the New Year, residents are urged to celebrate responsibly while embracing the spirit of togetherness fostered by the government.
