Ali was initially due to appear before the upper legislative chamber today, March 14,but he was absent at the plenary session.

The Senate reached the decision after a motion moved by Rivers State Senator, George Thompson Sekibo.

“@NGRSenate should not debate issues wit individuals,its a constitutional matter, it has gone beyond the CG,I site section 89,” Sekibo said according to the Senate Twitter handle.

“Based on the constitution the Senate now moves that the CG @CustomsNG appears tomorrow 16th March, 2017 by 10am unfailingly,” the legislative chamber tweeted.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki also said that Ali must appear before the Senate because no one is above the law.

Ali met privately with Saraki on Tuesday after engaging in a war of words with the Senate over the decision to summon him in uniform.

The Customs boss had earlier told the Senate, via a letter, that he would not be able to appear before it on Wednesday due to a previously scheduled meeting.
