Balarabe gave the commendation at the state Police Headquarters, Enugu on Monday after his weekly briefing with senior officers of the command, Divisional Police Officers (DPO) and heads of departments.
“The need to commend the command’s officers and men cannot be over emphasized as all hands were on deck in-line with the operational guidelines of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu, concerning elections,’’ he said.
On the murder incident recorded at a residence of one of the candidates of a political party at Igbo-Eze North council area, he maintained that a full scale investigation had commenced on the matter.
The commissioner, however, said “the person killed is not an election observer.”
“The circumstance surrounding the incident is being investigated by the command’s Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (CIID).
“However, somebody has been arrested in connection with the matter,’’ he said.
He also warned officers to ensure that no form of extortion should be entertained within their areas of responsibilities, “as anyone caught will not be spared’’.
Balarabe further assured the residents that the command would continue to maintain necessary crime preventive measures to ensure that the state continued to remain peaceful.
