Earlier this month, Mayweather argued he is better than Ali ever was, before claiming in a subsequent interview that he respects "all the past champions".

The 38-year-old unbeaten boxer, who will take on Manny Pacquiao on Sunday in the most-anticipated bout this decade, insisted, however: "I'm the best at what I do".

But Ali - or those who control his official Twitter account - took a swipe at Mayweather on Monday.

"Don't you forget, I am the greatest!" the Twitter handle @MuhammadAli wrote.
