Micky Higham has left Super League side Warrington Wolves to join Championship high-flyers Leigh Centurions.

Warrington rejected a bid from Leigh for Higham last week, stating that the hooker was an integral part of the club's first team.

However, a statement from Warrington on Wednesday revealed that Higham subsequently handed in a transfer request prior to an improved offer of £50,000 being accepted.

Higham, who is prohibited from playing against Warrington when the two teams meet in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals, has won three Challenge Cups and a League Leader's Shield with Warrington as well as playing in two Super League grand finals.

He will hope to make a swift return to Super League as ambitious Leigh, unbeaten in 2015, seek promotion.

Warrington subsequently confirmed that Brad Dwyer had been recalled from his loan at London Broncos to cover Higham's departure.

Dwyer, 22, has also signed a new contract to cover the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
