The unseeded Bedene attracted little attention coming into this ATP 250 hard-court event, but the Slovenian's impressive displays have now earned him a semi-final spot after coming from behind to win 2-6 6-3 6-2.

Garcia-Lopez, the fifth seed, dominated the opening set and took the lead after reeling off five successive games from 2-1 down.

Bedene hit back in the second, eventually taking advantage of his fifth set point to force a decider.

And he continued his fine form in the final set, breaking the world number 36 immediately to gain the upper hand.

After rescuing two break-back points in the next game to consolidate, Bedene broke for a second time in the set in game five, and was able to go on to see out the victory and secure his last-four berth.

There he will meet another Spaniard in the form of third seed Roberto Bautista Agut, who edged past Lu Yen-hsun 7-6 (9-7) 6-4.

In the other half of the draw, defending champion Stanislas Wawrinka also prevailed in straight sets, 6-2 7-6 (7-4) against eighth seed Gilles Muller.

Top seed Wawrinka will now meet David Goffin, after the fourth seed saw off Andreas Haider-Maurer 7-5 6-2.
