Lionel Messi tops Cristiano Ronaldo in a new list of top 10 highest-paid footballers
Lionel Messi is currently the highest-paid player in world football beating his longtime rival Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to L'Equipe’s annual salary report, Messi earns £7.3m a month tax which makes him the highest-paid player in the world.
Messi earns almost twice the amount (£4.1m) Ronaldo takes home at Juventus before tax.
Messi’s massive wage is on the back of the new contract he signed in November 2017 which made him the best-paid player in the world.
In L'Equipe’s report, five players from the top 10 highest-paid players in the world play in Spain, two in France and England while Ronaldo is Serie A’s only representative.
Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann is third on the list with his monthly earning of £2.9m which he got after signing a massive new contract in the summer.
Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar comes fourth with the monthly earning of £2.7m while Barcelona’s Luis Suarez completes the top five with a monthly wage of £2.5m.
Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale takes home £2.2m, Philippe Coutinho (£2m), Alexis Sanchez (£2m), Kylian Mbappe (£1.5m) and Mesut Ozil (£1.4m) to complete the list.
