Niigata Prefecture, a Japanese metropolis famous for her high quality rice has found a new and creative way to use the the straw left over after rice harvest.

After the harvest, a rice-straw festival where local artists build large straw sculptures atop wooden frames for support is held on the last day of August.

The wooden frames provide support for the sculptures and allow them to be larger than life in size.
The festival is called Wara Art festival. 'Wara' translates to 'rice straw' in Japanese.
