Car thief drives straight into the ocean to escape police

A suspected car thief made a stupid and bizarre attempt at evading police by driving his SUV straight into the sea.

The police have been chasing the suspect for two hours, after seeing that he had nowhere else to go, he drove straight into the sea.

The police thought they had their man when they pulled up to him on the beach. But he surprised them when he took a sharp right turn and drove directly into the ocean.

The incident which happened in Perth, Australia shocked everyone as no one could understand why he drove straight into the sea.

After he realised he was stucked, with head-high waves submerging the vehicle, the man climbed out to take refuge on the car roof.

Two officers then waded into the sea to arrest him.

A plane circling overhead managed to capture the failed escape bid.

According to the West Australian, police started following the driver when they spotted him driving erratically.

Officers believe the car may have been stolen.
