Every fourth of July since 1776, Americans celebrates their independence from England.

On June 7, 1776, representatives of the 13 colonies and England who were waging a year old conflict came together at the Pennsylvania State House [later Independence Hall] and Richard Henry Lee of Virginia presented the resolution agenda with these words which have now legendary.

"Resolved: That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved."

Although the resolution was not carried out immediately, on July 4, 1776 the declaration to be independent was adopted.
