This is no doubt heartbreaking news for the fans of the couple worldwide as they stuck by each other through some very trying times and seemed like they had a pretty solid marriage going for them. It would be recalled that Micheal Douglas had battled Throat Cancer last year eventually beating the Cancer. Catherine on her part also checked into a mental facility earlier this year over her bi-polar disorder.

In spite of the 25 year age gap between the couple (Catherine is 43, while Michael is 68), the couple had always maintained a strong bond, standing by each other through their various health struggles, while constantly singing each other's praises and offering quiet support. Now that the duo seem to have gotten their respective health challenges under control could it be that the strain of managing their healths took its toll on the marriage? Only time would tell.

The couple have tow children together, Dlan, 13 and Carys, 10.
