Scientist bitten by snake more than 160 times is now immune to the venom
Tim Friede, an amateur scientist from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, claims that by taking the back-to-back bites he’s making himself immune.
To prove it, the 37-year-old recently took back-to-back bites from two of the world’s deadliest snakes – a black mamba, and a taipan.
However, his obsession with preventing snake bite deaths has almost led to his own death on several occasions.
Also, his wife Beth divorced him lasr october because he was taking so many risks.
But despite all this, the experiment seems to be working.
According to Dr Brian Hanley, a microbiologist from the University of California, tests show Tim now has twice the number of antibodies.
Tim’s been doing this for around 16 years, and is hoping the experiments will lead to a vaccine for venomous snake bites. Metro UK reported.
This means he’s getting ever closer to developing that vaccine.
