Mourinho slammed with $23,000 fine following misconduct in Serie A
Jose Mourinho has been handed a two-game touchline ban after he received a red card in Roma's draw with Hellas Verona according to a verdict reached by the Italian FA on Tuesday.
Mourinho descended into a tantrum and challenged the referee's decision before kicking the ball into the stands.
The Italian Football Federation launched an investigation into Mourinho's sending off and claimed that the Portuguese manager “made serious allegations” against the referee while disputing his decision.
Mourinho made a telephone gesture towards Luca Pairetto, which Italian media outlets reported was in reference to his father Pierluigi, who was involved in the Italian match-fixing scandal of 2006.
The Portuguese coach also left the stadium without stopping for post-match media duties following his side’s poor performance.
Following the investigation, Mourinho has been fined $23,000 along with his touchline ban.
Mourinho will now miss Roma's trip to Spezia and their home match against Atalanta.
Following three consecutive draws Roma are now eighth in the Serie A.
