In a bout Mayweather has consistently declared will be his last, judges declared the 38-year-old American the victor with scores of 117-111, 118-110 and 120-108.

In typical Mayweather fashion, he put on a boxing clinic with his patience and well-timed punches on Saturday, although critics will claim Berto was not at his level.

Mayweather's win-loss record matches Rocky Marciano's mark and although many expect the man known as 'Money' to lace up the gloves for a 50th fight, he reiterated his commitment to retirement.

"You have to know when to hang it up. It's my time to hang it up," Mayweather said after the win.

"Nothing else for me to prove in the sport of boxing."
