The upcoming American 3D computer-animated adventure comedy film is directed by Tony Leondis and written by Leondis, Eric Siegel and Mike White.

The film will center on Gene, a multi-expressional emoji, as he sets out on a journey to become a normal emoji.

The animated film stars T.J Miller as Gene, Ilana Glazer, James Corden as a hand emoji, Steven Wright among others.

Sony is partnering with popular mobile apps to market the movie which makes its debut in theaters on August 4, 2017.
