'Glee' star Melissa Benoist leads cast for new TV series

CBS has ordered for the first season of 'Supergirl,' with Glee star, Melissa Benoist, playing the lead character.

Melissa will be starring alongside Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow Schott, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw , Dean Cain and Helen Slater.

Based on characters from DC comics, 'Supergirl' centers on Kara Zor-El, who comes to Earth after escaping the destruction of Krypton. After many years hiding her abilities, she joins the ranks of her cousin Superman to become a hero.

No information has been revealed on number of episodes, but the pilot is expected to debut on the network later this year.
