Tottenham offloaded their 30 year-old Cameroon international Benoit Assou-Ekotto from his £40,000 a week deal.

The club confirmed on Monday that the player who is yet to play any football for them since May 2013 has been released.

'We can confirm that Benoit Assou-Ekotto has been released from his contract with the Club. We wish him well,' Tottenham wrote.

He spent last season on loan at Queens Park Rangers.
