East Africa shines as Diamond Platnumz is biggest winner on the continent

It was a historical night at the just concluded 2015 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) as East African artists won most of the award categories, leaving Nigerian acts to more location-specific gongs.

Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania, was the biggest winner of the night as he took home three awards notably the Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year award.

Kenyan musicians also scooped up three awards.

Sauti Sol won two awards including Best African Group and Producer of the Year with Cedric Kadenyi, and M'vula scooped up the award for Best Artist in African Rock.

The members of Sauti Sol celebrated their wins with the evening's biggest winner, Tanzania's Diamond Platnumz who was awarded the coveted Artist of the Year.

The 2015 edition of The Awards, held at EKO Hotel & Suites, saw this year's winners being awarded with a 23.9 karat gold-plated drum and microphone- shaped trophy.

Nigeria was represented on the award winners’ list as Darey, Flavour, Adekunle Gold, Kiss Daniel, Olamide and Yemi Alade won 1 plaque each.

Yemi Alade won the Best female Artiste In West Africa. The Effizy Music singer who has had a standout year with her impressive form on the continent, took home the award, while fending off challenges from Seyi Shay, Niyola,  Efya, Ruby Gyang, and Wiyaala.

On the male front, YBNL singer Olamide received the award as the Best female Artiste In West Africa.

Olamide won the award for his song ‘Bobo’, over Wizkid’s ‘Ojuelegba’, Sarkodie’s ‘Adonai (Remix), Flavour’s ‘Golibe’, and Davido’s ‘Fans mi’.

Kiss Daniel made history as the Most Promising Artiste in Africa, while Adekunle Gold stood out as the Revelation Of The Year In Africa.

Flavour won the Best Artiste in African Electro for his song ‘Power to win’, and Praiz stood out as Best Artiste in Africa (R&B and Soul).
