Singer talks about debut album "Gold", new video
Adekunle Gold who is recently in London for his “Gold” album listening party stops by Factory78tv to talk about his album, new video and the impact his album is having and more.
He talks about the concept behind the new music video ‘Ariwo Ko’, working relationship between Adasa Cookey.
On the reception of the album, the singer said it’s been good, though a few reviews thought he could have done better. He further added that it is a learning process for him regardless of the fact that he worked tirelessly to perfect the album. On what he could have done better, Adekunle said jokingly “Maybe scream till I lose my voice but I think I did that with most of the songs, so it’s fine."
Speaking of the impact his songs has had on people’s relationships, Gold made reference to some guy that came for a gig he was billed to perform at in Abuja, talking of how the guy made him understand that he was the reason he was getting married to his lady the following weekend simply because he impressed her apparently with a song of his despite an argument they had earlier.
The 'Orente' crooner further added that what amazed him about the whole thing was that the lady is Hausa, so he couldn’t fathom how she was able to understand his music because he sings mostly in Yoruba. He also mentioned that somebody proposed to his lady at a show while he was performing his breakthrough song ‘Sade’.
“ It’s been my dream not just to make music but to heal, and it’s happening already.”
The gifted singer dreams of being heard all over the world and hopes to leave a legacy of healing through his music. He also talked about what the relationship is like in the YBNL camp, and how his personal relationship with label boss Olamide is like.
Rounding off the interview, Adekunle delivers an impressive freestyle cover of Kent Jones’ ‘Don’t mind’ single.
Enjoy.
