2face Idibia is in the news now because of his decision to be the face of a planned nationwide protests against bad governance by the present administration.

The move which has generated polarized opinions amongst Nigerians, have seen people make a case for and against the march. Many are of the opinion that 2face Idibia lacks the political clout and credibility to galvanize the nation in a protest against the government.

Others are of the opinion that 2face Idibia has gathered political cache via some records off his discography, and his campaigns for a violence-free electoral process. Songs such as ‘For Instance’, and ‘E be like say’, are being held up high as proof that the singer is a man for the people.

This track came through on his debut album, and marks the earliest parts of 2face Idibia’s activism. A song about inclusion and equality, the singer was pretty vocal about politicians in the second verse, which still remains a classic to this day.

It is a single off his debut solo album “Face 2 Face”, which became a major hit, and sold up to 2 million copies in Nigeria, and succeeded in spreading 2face’s influence on the continent as a music star.

“For Instance”is a single off 2face Idibia‘s 2006 “” second solo album. The album sold over a million copies in its first week of release and won him numerous awards including the MOBO Award in 2007.

The single is one of the most enduring of 2face’s political music. The song, which is a direct protest to the state of the Nigerian nation, was popular in its time, became a hit, and was produced by the late OJB Jezreel, who produced the entire album.

2face whipped up sentiments about the struggle of the masses and each verse can still be sung by millennials by heart.

Bearing a strong guitar instrumental, and featuring singer Soul E, this song was a direct protest against politicians who seek the mandate during the general elections. The song is still off the 2006 “Grass 2 Grace” album produced by OJB Jezreel.

It’s a direct message to everyone, but most importantly, to the politics of our country which is divisive, and seeks to play on our differences for affiliation and votes.

Off his “The Unstoppable” album, 2face screams down at the decadence around him, and all the violence and corruption that has overcome the society that he finds himself in.

A joint record with Sway, 2face Idibia creates an alternate reality where he stays away from Nigeria, due to the rot in the system and hate.

The legend’s last outing on a full length project was a critical flop which didn’t help his career. But amongst the dust and bleak music, there was a gem which shone from the project. That song was ‘Jeje’, an Afrobeat song about living right and taking care of your business…including the politicians.

During the last Nigeria general elections, 2face Idibia campaigned extensively for a fair and free electoral process that ideally should be devoid of bloodshed. That campaign tagged ‘Vote Not Fight’, birthed an eponymous song, which failed to gather penetration, but marked time as the musical accompaniment to a good cause.
