The Philadelphia 76ers, as expected, made Australian and former LSU forward Ben Simmons their first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft on Thursday.

Simmons is the first number one pick by Philadelphia since the franchise selected Hall of Fame guard Allen Iverson in 1996.

"It's a great city and I'm looking forward to getting to Philly," Simmons said afterwards.

"I feel relaxed and I'm very comfortable with the system. Young team, I'm really looking forward to it."

Simmons averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and two steals per game his lone season in Baton Rouge.

The Los Angeles Lakers, meanwhile, selected Duke forward Brandon Ingram as they kicked off the post-Kobe Bryant era.

"Leadership. Bringing some professional level to the team and trying to impact with scoring and my defensive ability. I'm focused on getting stronger right now, continuing to get stronger every day," Ingram said.

Ingram averaged 17.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, 1.1 steals per game and shot 41 percent from the three-point line.
