2 drug traffickers say the ingested cocaine for $10,000

Two drug traffickers who were arrested with cocaine in their stomach say they were to get $10,000 for the deadly parcel.

Cocaine burst

The duo of Patrick Otaka, 48, and 32-year-old Ikechuwku David, are now regretting the love for money that persuaded them to agree to swallow 132 wraps of cocaine weighing 2.7kg for a reward of $5,000 each.

The drug traffickers who were by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, were returning to Nigeria from Kenya aboard an Ethiopian Airline flight.

While parading the suspects, NDLEA Commander at the airport, Ambrose Umoru, said Otaka had ingested 72 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.450kg while David swallowed 60 wraps weighing 1.250kg.

The Ohafia, Abia State born Otaka, is a trader based in Aba while David is an apprentice at the Alaba International Market, Lagos, and they were bringing in the drugs for some barons who were willing to pay them the money.

Umoru said:

“The suspects were nabbed on their way from Kenya. Interim investigation revealed that they were recruited by one source and were promised the sum of $5,000 each.”

Otaka confessed that he wanted to make the quick money to be able to pay his children's school fees.

“I sell clothes in Aba but my business has suffered serious setbacks. I wanted to use the money to pay my children's school fees.”
