President appoints Tinubu to reconcile aggrieved APC members

Tinubu is expected reach out to some members of the party who were said to have been sidelined when President Buhari took office.

The President's spokesman, Garba Shehu disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, February 6, 2018.

He said the reconciliation process is part of the efforts to improve cohesion in the party.

"As part of on-going efforts to improve cohesion within the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari has designated Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence building efforts," the statement said.

Tinubu's assignment, according to Shehu, is to resolve disagreements among party members, party leadership and political office holders in some states of the Federation.

The reconciliation move is presumably in preparation for the 2019 election, as the ruling party seems to be losing credibility among Nigerians day by day.

According to Senator Shehu Sani, who is a member of the APC, the internal crisis in the party is widespread, adding that the reconciliation move is coming too late but noted its better late than never.

Sani said many of the party members, including him would explore their Plan B if the problem is not resolved.

He stated this on Tuesday while speaking on a Channels TV program, Politics Today.

"Tinubu is the best person that can reunite the party", Sani added.

Other media reports said Tinubu is expected to reach out to those believed to have been sidelined by President Buhari after he took office.

In 2016, the President's wife, Mrs Aisha Buhari had in an interview with BBC alleged that her husband's government has been hijacked by a cabal.

Mrs Buhari said those who worked tirelessly to ensure her husband becomes president were abandoned, as a select few calls the shot in Aso Rock.
