How to save on wedding expenses

Weddings are lovely but planning a wedding can be quite expensive and you don't want to drain all your income into your wedding.

Weddings are lovely but planning a wedding can be quite expensive and you don't want to drain all your income into your wedding. Though traditionally, parents are the ones who foot marriage bills but these days, couples also play a huge part when it comes to marriage finance.

Here are ways to save on wedding expenses.

1. Work with a budget for your wedding

When planning a wedding, the first the thing is to create a budget for the occasion which you need to stick to.

Set the amount you want to spend on as little as the invitation card and bridal bouquet.

Working with a budget for a wedding helps to limit expenses and also not control your spending.

2. Set your wedding date for a weekday

To control the crowd during your wedding, it is advisable to set your wedding date for a weekday.

You are not that special to think people would leave their office to come attend your wedding.

Setting your wedding on a weekend means so many people would be available to attend, which would cost you a lot more. So pick a weekday so you won't have to spend so much and you automatically save more.

3. Have an outdoor wedding reception

We all know how expensive getting a hall for a wedding venue is in Nigeria. A lot of money goes into booking an event centre.

Not only do you spend money on the hall, you also spend money to decorate the hall.

Look for a conducive outdoor space, probably a garden or the beach to hold your wedding and wedding reception.

It is way cheaper having it our. You can also use that as an opportunity to have a themed wedding and not the general setting for most weddings.

4. Do some renting

Yeah... I said it. Do some renting. You can rent your wedding gown.

Think about it this way, you are only going to wear the gown only once in your lifetime or twice or more if you re-marry. You don't have to waste so much on it. Go to a wedding gown shop, look for a pretty gown that is perfect for you and rent.

See also if you can also get to rent other stuff like your wedding cake.

Don't buy... Rent.

5. Plan your wedding yourself

You would definitely save more if you plan your wedding yourself instead of hiring the service of an event planner.

As you keep paying for all the wedding arrangement to a wedding planner, you are also paying for the wedding planner's service.

Find wedding vendors yourself and plan your wedding yourself to cut costs and save more.
