Magical village with no roads
The ancient village of Giethoorn, has no roads in it or modern means of transportation leading through it.

Founded around 1230, this magical village is something you can only dream of- until you visit. The village has no roads and people get by through canals and a whopping 176 bridges.
The early inhabitants of the village found huge peat deposits and dug many holes over a period of years. These holes eventually became small lakes.

The newly formed pockets of islands were then connected by hundreds of bridges.
Tourists and visitors have to leave their cars outside the village and travel there on foot or by boat.
The boats, called 'whisper boats' are equipped with noiseless engines, leaving the serenity of the village undisturbed.
You can imagine how calm and peaceful the village is. The inhabitants say that the peace and quiet is only disturbed by the cackling ducks and chirping birds.
