IVF fraud laid bare

Celina Etomi, a 62-year old woman, who claimed to be a medical doctor with the capability to get barren pregnant through In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF), has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command, after she duped four childless women of the sum of N7.8 million, reports The Nation.

Etomi was alleged to have promised to make the women have twin babies and went about defrauding them. She was also said to have told her victims to name the number and sex of children they want and some of the victims mentioned twin, triplets and quadruplets.

The fraud came to the fore after she reportedly collected N900,000 from a family to treat their daughter who is blind and has malignant brain tumour and when the girl was not healed, the family reported to the police, leading to Etomi's arrest.

According to the police, the suspect told her victims that she worked for a British owned hospital based in Ondo State and after collecting the huge sum of money, she escaped from the town to Benin City, the capital of Edo State, where she was traced to and nabbed in her hideout.
