OAU postpones resumption to Sunday, April 29, 2018
The Vice Chancellor of the University says the resumption is postponed in order to renovate the different halls of residence in the school.
The decision was reportedly taken after a brief Senate meeting with the university officials on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.
According to Farombi Oluwaseun, a student of the school, the University Registrar, Mr Dotun Awoyemi confirmed that the resumption dates has been postponed.
Also, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede while announcing the postponement said "We postponed resumption so that we can to renovate the different halls of residence so that it can be ready before they resume.
“All internal programs like TP, SIWES and IT is to come to an end by March 30th so that renovations can start as early as possible so that students would vacate the halls of residence” Ogunbodede added.
OAU management attacked for handing over students to Police
Meanwhile, the university management was recently criticised for handing over for handing over its own students to the police for prosecution
Recall that on Wednesday, March 21, some students reportedly resisted forceful ejection of female students from Moremi Hall, which was said to have been marked for renovation.
The management had reportedly instructed the university workers and security operatives to clean and evict the students out of the hostels but while the workers were carrying out confrontation ensued between the students and a worker.
The five students, Gbenga Olaniran, Oyedeji Samson, Olajide Adedamola,Jimoh Oladipupoand Adeniji John, were subsequently arrested and arraigned on Thursday, March 22, at the Ife Magistrate Court 24 hours after the university management reportedly handed them over to the police.
