5 students handed over to police by OAU management charged to court
The Magistrate asks each of the students to pay N500,000 as part of their bail terms.
The school authorities on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, accused the students of assaulting university officials, who were instructed to clean and evict female students from Moremi hall, which was said to have been marked for renovation.
According to reports, while the university workers were carrying out the instructions, a confrontation erupted between the students and the university officials.
The confrontation reportedly led to the arrest of the following students: Gbenga Oloruniran, a 400 level students of Geography; Olajide Ademola, a 500 level student of Electrical Electronics; Oyedeji Samson, 300 level student of Pharmacy; Jimoh Oladipupo, 300 level student of Biochemistry; and Adeniji John, 300 level student of Electrical Electronics.

Following their arrest on Wednesday, March 21, the five students according to Premium Times appeared in Court on Thursday, March 22, 2018, in Ife, Osun state.
While students and journalists were denied access to the courtroom by the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police, the acting student union security officer, Opeyemi Oprah, who was present during the proceeding said the arraigned students were granted bail, Premium Times reports.
The bail term for each of the students according to report includes N500,000 bond and provision of two sureties, who must be civil servants of level 11 and above as well as tax payers.
The bail condition, however, prompted Obafemi Awolowo University students to protest by raising placards and singing outside the court premises.
