EKSU lecturers call off 3-month strike

The strike was called off after 57 percent of the university lecturers voted in support of the strike to be suspended.

The decision to call off the strike was reached in a meeting held on Thursday, March 15, when 53 percent of the Academic Staff Union Members of the school voted for the strike to be called off while 43 percent voted for the continuation of the strike.

Meanwhile, Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka had hinted about the suspension of the strike while addressing some students representatives on Monday, March 12, 2018.

He said, “for your information, many of the issues have already been resolved; delay in salary payment was caused by the bad economy. We are experiencing a terrible recession in the country

“I can confirm to you that the governor has agreed to pay two months subventions to ensure two months salary arrears for our lecturers. I am appealing to my colleagues since the government has shifted ground, they should suspend the strike”

EKSU students recently lamented over lecturers' strike

Recall that Ekiti State University students in February expressed their disappointment over their lecturers' indefinite strike, which started on Tuesday, January 16, 2018.

Some of the students who spoke with newsmen said the fresh students, who just gained admission into the school are becoming restless while final year students are getting frustrated over the lecturers' strike.
