The fee increases by over 500% but the university management says students who cannot pay the full fee at once can pay per semester.

The university authorities announced the increment in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Tunji Abayomi on Thursday, April 5, 2018.

It reads in part: ''In order to avoid any further delay in the school resumption, the new school fees for new and returning students have been approved. Students are advised to access AAUA registration portal to know the new school fees for their departments.

“However, the council has approved payment per semester for students who cannot afford to pay the full school fees at once.”

The new school fees range from N120,000 to N180,000 as the release states that the returning students of Education Management are expected to pay N120,000 while the freshmen will be paying N150,000.

For students in the Department of Accounting, Economics and Faculty of Law, the returning students will pay N150,000 while freshers in these departments are expected to pay N180,000.

While returning students in other faculties are billed to pay N150,000, students in Faculty of Sciences are expected to pay N180, 000 for the new academic session.

Parents react to new school fees

Meanwhile, parents have been kicking against the tuition hike as one of them argues that the management did not consider the economic condition of the parents before fixing the new school fees.

A parent, Mrs. Mabel Salawu, who spoke with Punch, lamented saying: “This is too much for us to pay, I have two children in the school and I am a petty trader. How does the school want me to cope?

Recently, tuition hike seems to be the new trend in Nigerian Universities. Recall that Medical students of the University of Ibadan on Thursday, April 6, 2018, protested against increment in accommodation and introduction of professional training fee of N100,000.
