5 times Christians predicted world would end but it clearly didn’t

According to the following predictions, the world was supposed to have ended at least five times.

For years, we have had different people and groups telling us that they know exactly when the world is ending.

The latest of these self-proclaimed prophets is David Meade, a Christian researcher, who claimed that the world would end on September 23, 2017.

That day came, passed and we are still here.

In light of this recent failed prediction, here are five memorable times Christians said the world would end.

1. Jan. 1, 2000: In 1999, there was a lot of speculation that the world would end because of a Y2K bug, also called Year 2000 bug or Millennium Bug. The issue was a computer programming that abbreviated four-digit years as two digits. The purpose of this was to save memory space. What that means is that those old computers could only recognize “98” as “1998”, leaving no room for the system to interpret “00” as “2000.”

The fact that the year 2000 would register as the year 1900 could cause issues for the banking, utility systems, government records, and more. It was in the midst of this chaos that Rev. Jerry Falwell predicted that the Y2K bug would bring about the end of the world. Reportedly, over $100 billion was spent on Y2K fixes as the world prepared for its end. January 1, 2000, came and the world continued.

2. May 21, 2011: According to USA Today, Harold Camping predicted that the world was coming to an end. According to the late televangelist and former president of the Family Radio Network, rapture would start at 6 p.m with a series of worldwide earthquakes. This caused many people to quit their jobs as they waited nervously for the world to end. When that date came and nothing happened, October 21, 2011, was the new date. He was proven wrong twice.

3. April 15, 2014: In 2014, there was a lunar tetrad, four successive lunar eclipses. So, from April 14–14, 2017, to September 27–28, 2015 there were four Blood Moon eclipses.

This unique occurrence was seen by Texas televangelist John Hagee (author of Blood Moons: Something is About to Change) as a sign of a “world-shaking event.” This was backed by a verse from the Book of Joel, that read, “the sun will turn into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes.” (See also Revelation 6: 12)

4. Oct. 7, 2015: Like the previous one, this prediction was as a result of the blood moon. The appearance of the moon caused a Christian website run by Chris McCann, the eBible Fellowship, to give a doomsday prophecy. Speaking with The Guardian, McCann said, “According to what the Bible is presenting it does appear that 7 October will be the day that God has spoken of: in which, the world will pass away. It’ll be gone forever. Annihilated.” The site has earlier claimed that the world would end on May 21, 2011.

5. July 29, 2016: Last year, The End Times Prophecies announced that a “polar flip” would bring about the end of the world on July 29, 2016. This was revealed via a 17-minute Armageddon News video that was posted July 9 on YouTube.

It said, “The polar flip will make the stars race across the sky, and the vacuum from the reeling of the Earth will pull the atmosphere along the ground, trying to catch up, creating what is known as a roll cloud.” The group had previously predicted former President Barack Obama as the Antichrist.
