Wolverhampton Wanderers, relegated to the second tier of English football, have sacked manager Rob Edwards after just seven months at the helm, the BBC reports.

The 43-year-old coach took charge of the 'Wolves' in November following Vítor Pereira's departure, but he was unable to prevent the team's relegation to the Championship. Finishing last in the league with a mere 20 points led to his dismissal, and the West Midlands club will now seek a replacement to guide them back to the top flight. Edwards' assistants, Harry Watling and Paul Trollope, will also be leaving Wolverhampton.

According to media reports in England, Portuguese manager César Peixoto, currently at the helm of Gil Vicente in the Primeira Liga, is among the candidates for the position at Molineux.

Wolves have already begun actively planning for their next campaign, attracting former England international Kieran Trippier on a free transfer from Newcastle. Striker Raúl Jiménez also returns to the squad after three seasons in West London with Fulham.
