Venus Williams: Age no barrier for modern day players
Venus Williams said she is not putting a cap on how long she can play for, after a dominant start to her 18th Wimbledon campaign.
The 35-year-old was a 6-0 6-0 winner over Madison Brengle, Williams' first 'double bagel' at a major in 13 years.
The elder Williams sister has been dealing with retirement questions for some time, but the five-time Wimbledon champion said the notion of ending her career was not on her mind.
"I don't necessarily have an opinion about everyone else," Williams told a news conference.
"I think that tennis players have the ability to play a longer time than they have in the past and people are capitalising on it.
"It's a great job. It's fun out here. You can only do it for a little while in comparison to how long you won't be doing it. So that's my whole thing."
Williams did not stick the boot into Brengle, who won just 22 points in the 41-minute affair.
"I don't think she played badly. I was just able to convert on the important points," she said.
Williams trailed 40-15 in the first game of the match, but fought back to break Brengle - and then obliterated her thereafter.
The 16th seed remains on track for a meeting with sister Serena in the fourth round, after the top seed also progressed to the second round on Monday.
