German automaker hires former BMW executive

Volkswagen has hired a former BMW executive named Hinrich J. Woebcken.

This 55-year-old German will head the North American Division.

Woebcken will handle product development, procurement, manufacturing, marketing and sales for Volkswagen.

Prior to his appointment, he was in charge of procurement for another carmaker, BMW.

He will resume his responsibilities on April 1, 2016.

Currently, Volkswagen is in a N3.78 trillion legal battle, has revealed it's first quarterly loss in 15 yearsand has been replaced by BMW as the world’s top-selling automaker.
