Golden Eaglets stars nominated for Africa Youth Player of the Year award

After leading the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria to win the 2015 Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Nwakali have been nominated for CAF Youth Player of the Year award.

Osimhen scored 39 goals in 71 games during the Golden Eaglets preparatory matches and the CAF U-17 Championship.

In the U-17 World Cup, the striker also finished as the highest goalscorer and created a record of 10 goals in seven games.

The 16-year-old was also part of the Nigeria Dream Team VI that won the just concluded U-23 African Cup of Nations in Senegal.

Nwakali who was captain of the side was also named the Most Valuable Player of the .

The Nigerian youth stars will have to beat Adama Traore, Samuel Diarra both of Mali and Yaw Yeboah, of Ghana.

The manager of the Golden Eaglets Emmanuel Amuneke has also been nominated for the CAF Coach of the Year award.

Others nominated include coach of the Mali U-17 side who lost at the final of the World to Nigeria, Baye Ba, Fawzi Benzarti of Etoile Sportive de Sahel, Hervé Renard who won the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations with Cote d’ivore and Patrice Carteron of TP Mazembe.

The Golden Eaglets have also been nominated in the National Team of the Year category of the Glo-CAF Awards.

Cote d’Ivoire who won the 2015 AFCON, Ghana who lost at the final, Mali U17 who lost the final of U-17 World Cup to Nigeria are the other nominated team.
