Nigeria's tertiary institutions can compete favourably with their counterparts in the world if the issues of inadequate funding and incessant industrial action are effectively addressed.
The Vice-chancellor Bells University of Science and Technology, Ota, Professor Isaac Adeyemi, said this while speaking with Business Day.
Adeyemi said the low ranking of Nigerian Universities among their peers in the world can only be reversed if a pragmatic and effective approach is taken to the issue of incessant strike actions in the university system, as well increasing budgetary allocations to the institutions.
“Government should increase the funding; we are like Oliver Twist," the Vice Chancellor said.
"You remember I said the quantum has increased and so much our problem too."
According to him, if this is done, the university education system will be boosted, making certificates issued favourably comparable worldwide.
