'The guy is too old'- 27-year old UFC sensation makes a daring call out of Kamaru Usman
Swedish MMA fighter Khamzat Chimaev Chimaev has taken the MMA world by storm since his 2020 debut. The Chechnyan born Swedish powerhouse has become a force to reckon with, staying undefeated after ten professional fights, four of which were in the UFC.
Chimaev believes he has an aura of invincibility, even calling out undefeated Nigerian champion Kamaru Usman. Speaking during media day for UFC 273, the welterweight fighter claims the Nigerian Nightmare has gone out of his way to avoid facing him in the octagon.
“I’m already the champ, that guy [Usman] doesn’t want to fight me. He goes out to do the surgery, and then he wants to do boxing somewhere. He can fix his arm and then go do the boxing, I don’t know," Chimaev said.
In a special interview with UFC legend Daniel Cormier, the heavily bearded fighter made a surprising claim that Usman is not in top physical shape to fight against him.
“Usman (is) almost handicapped, brother. His knees don’t work, his back hurts, his arm hurts, operations everywhere. The guy is too old, and he’s too slow. They want to find a way to make money and go away from my way." Chimaev said.
Chimaev returns to the Octagon on Sunday morning, hoping to defend his unbeaten record against Gilbert Burns at UFC 273.
