'They can't play in our competitions'- UEFA President lashes out at Super League planners
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has issued a stern warning to club Presidents and other conspirators looking to form a European Super League.
Ceferin, who seemed tired of hearing of the idea, made his and UEFA's stance clear at the Financial Times Business of Football Summit in London.
"First, they launched their nonsense of the idea in the middle of a pandemic. Now, we read articles that they are planning to launch another idea now in the middle of a war."
Apart from the poor timing of the discussions, Ceferin also believes that it is not really his concern as a make believe league is not a football project.
"I have to say that those speaking about the Super League are not speaking about football. I am sick and tired of this non-football project," he said.
Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has been rumored to be the brain behind the rebranding of the Super League and Aleksander Ceferin did not hold back words when he spoke about Agnelli who was also present at the summit.
"They criticised UEFA and the ECA [European Club Association], one of them was chairman of the ECA,"
"I have quotes from where he [Agnelli] was praising the system a week before they launched the Super League." Ceferin said.
Ceferin laid down a firm warning to Agnelli and his co-conspirators, their clubs would not be able to participate in UEFA competitions if they go ahead with their plans.
"They can play their own competition, nobody forbids them," he said.
"But if they play their own competition, they can't play in our competition."
