Liverpool has made an initial approach to Monaco to gauge the availability of winger Maghnes Akliouche, entering the race for the 24-year-old French international. Akliouche is also a priority target for PSG, according to Sky Sports.
The French champions, for their part, have already seen several bids for the player rejected by the Monegasque club. PSG's most recent offer was reportedly around 40 million euros, a figure deemed insufficient by Monaco.
The need to bolster Liverpool's attack became more pressing after Mohamed Salah's departure at the end of last season. New manager Andoni Iraola has publicly confirmed the urgency to sign a wide player.
"We definitely need to sign a winger," Iraola stated during a press conference in Chicago, ahead of a pre-season friendly against Sunderland in the USA.
The Spanish coach emphasized that despite securing the signing of Victor Muñoz from Osasuna, the squad requires more options. When asked about the number of reinforcements needed, Iraola remained cautious.
"It's difficult to put a number on it when the transfer window is open. We always have to be open to new options to improve the squad. There are obvious situations where we know we need to sign players. A winger, for example, we definitely need to sign a winger," he explained.
Maghnes Akliouche, who can operate as a right winger or attacking midfielder, impressed in the last Ligue 1 season with five goals and five assists in 31 appearances. He recently featured for France in the 2026 World Cup, though he only played in one match. Quick and explosive like Salah, he is also left-footed, fitting the profile the Reds are seeking following the Egyptian's departure.
Liverpool had previously shown interest in other targets, such as Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig. However, the German club was only willing to negotiate for the Ivorian international for a fee exceeding 100 million euros, which led the Reds to explore other alternatives like Akliouche.
